In what experts are calling the most aggressive push toward eye contact in the history of mobile gaming, Pokémon GO announced this week that trainers in Europe may gather in person during Pokémon GO Wild Area: Global, running November 14 to 15, 2026, at community meetups in Karlsruhe, Germany and Stockholm, Sweden.
The official announcement opens with the claim that “Pokémon GO is better when we play together,” a bold position for a game many trainers have played exclusively from a parked Opel. The meetups are organized with local Community Ambassadors, who will be on hand to guide attendees through the unfamiliar process of being perceived.
Karlsruhe: Ten Hours of Unbroken Proximity
The Saturday meetup takes place at Ettlinger Tor from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. local time, a full ten hours, which the Unova Institute for Social Endurance has classified as “roughly nine hours longer than the average trainer has spoken aloud since 2019.”
Trainers are told to watch the Campfire groups of the participating communities: PO GO Süd-West Stadt Ka from Karlsruhe, Pokémon GO Stuttgart, Pokémon Pforzheim, VAIne Raids from Vaihingen an der Enz, and PoGo Freiburg from Freiburg im Breisgau. The announcement advises opening these links on a phone, a request that assumes trainers own any other kind of device.
The announcement also notes that attendees can meet HanniMew there.
“I have known these people for four years as small circular avatars,” said Dieter Brandl, 38, who has coordinated 61 raid lobbies and has never once seen anyone’s knees. “I assume they have legs. I have prepared a short statement in case they do not.”
Stockholm: Eight Hours, Same Courage Required
On Sunday, the meetup moves to Kulturhuset Stadsteatern on Sergels Torg from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time, with SRE | Stockholm Raids & Events listed as the participating community.
“I have rehearsed the handshake,” said Linnea Holmqvist, 33, whose longest conversation this year was a 40-minute negotiation over who would throw the last Golden Razz Berry. “I am told it ends when both people let go. Nobody has told me who goes first.”
Researchers at the Institute further predict the average first in-person greeting will be “Which team are you,” followed by eleven seconds of silence and a mutual retreat toward the nearest PokéStop.
What You Get for Leaving the House
According to the announcement, attendees can expect photo opportunities, activities with Community Ambassadors and their communities, and Pokémon GO event pins and prints while supplies last, a phrase that has historically turned orderly adults into a cavalry charge.
Trainers who check in at the official meetup receive Timed Research, making this one of the few occasions in adult life when someone hands you homework as a reward for attendance. Its contents are not described.
Pokémon GO is also working with Community Ambassadors to add more PokéStops, Gyms and Power Spots near the event areas, ensuring that if conversation fails, there will always be something nearby to spin instead.
Trainers who live near neither city are told that communities and Community Ambassadors are planning meetups all over Europe, with a link to find a local one. The announcement asks players to be aware of their surroundings, follow guidelines from local health authorities, and notes that upcoming events are subject to change.
